As featured in Vogue’s October edition of 10 Game-Changing Beauty Products to Buy this Month, there’s a new, clean body butter on the market. Her name is Mutha. And she’s really not new at all.
The MUTHA Body Butter, a trifecta mixture of 100% natural origin shea, cocoa, and mango butters, has been a Hollywood and celebrity cult favorite for the last five years. Created in Hope Smith’s kitchen as an effective and safe way to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy, the elixir was originally named Baby + Momma Organics. “It was something I wanted and couldn’t find during my pregnancy,” Smith explains in an Instagram Q&A. “Everything had chemicals and I wanted an all-natural and organic product.”
For nearly two years, Smith has worked on rebranding and bringing her butter to mass market. The result is recently launched MUTHA. With chic and beautiful packaging, MUTHA looks more like luxury skincare than a kitchen-mixed cream.
“I wanted the packaging to be like me: on the exterior, creative, eccentric, modern, and glam. I needed it to be gorgeous on my vanity and like no other packaging that has been made before. Also like me, on the inside it’s organic and healthy.”

Alongside the body butter, Smith launched the MUTHA Body Oil as well. While the butter prevents and fades stretch marks, the oil firms and tightens the texture of the skin. Both are brilliant in keeping a mutha’s skin looking amazing during and after pregnancy. And while the line is definitely targeted at pregnant women, Smith claims she uses the products on her two young sons and her husband loves it. “My husband still uses after every shower,” says Smith. “He’s addicted.”
While the price tag is hefty, the container size and amount of product is worth the investment. With butters and oils, a little bit can go a long way.
There were already many influential fans of the body butter formula before launch. From Hilaria Baldwin to influencer @elshanesworld, Mutha has been used, loved, and raved about as the solution to great looking skin throughout pregnancy.
“5 years in the making, and as a result, the most chic, luxurious, and organic body products that have completely changed how I practice self care.” Lauren Spitz, who worked closely with Smith on the project.
