5 Editors turned Influencers to Follow for Fall Fashion 2019

Do you know that feeling when you’re looking for outfit inspiration for the upcoming season on Pinterest and nothing is resonating?

You’re craving trendy sweaters, leather, and outerwear? We are too.

We have rounded up a list of fashion and beauty editors turned influencers that have the hot trends in their stories and feed for you realtime!

The Evolution of Editor to Influencer

A Business of Fashion article pointed out the blurred line between editor and influencer. Before Instagram and Pinterest, all inspiration was influenced by what was in fashion magazines, and the content of the magazine was in the hands of the editors.

“The perception of a magazine job is still the ‘dream job,’” says Maria Dueñas Jacobs, the director of brand development at Stitch Fix and former accessories director at Elle, where she attracted followers with frequent posts from jewelry market appointments and fashion shows. “I saw it as a huge opportunity to build this following, to connect with people,” she adds. “Some people were starting to understand that editors were the first influencers.” Read more here.

There has also been a shift from print to digital. Powerhouse print publications such as Vogue have had to adapt to the increasingly digital world to keep up with blogs turned trailblazing fashion/lifestyle sites such as whowhatwear.com. It has the world saying ‘who has the authority here?’

Editors are quitting their editor jobs to be influencers and influencers are getting editor jobs to drive readers. Another trend is editors being hired by technology companies to create fashion partnerships. An example of this would be Eva Chen went from the editor-in-chief at Lucky Magazine to head of fashion partnerships at Instagram.

The beauty of this diversification is that the reader can decide. Gary Vaynerchuk says “content is king, and marketing is queen,” so we’ll see who can capture the trust and attention of fashion lovers in the years to come.
