So, you have a dream, a goal, a vision, a message, a cause that you want to bring to life?
Maybe you’re just getting started or maybe you’ve started and stopped a few times.
There is one thing you should understand if you want to grow a community, an audience, or a readership. This one tip is in countless articles on “how to grow on social media.” Gary Vaynerchuk will speak on this topic often…
That singular tip: CONSISTENT CONTENT OUTPUT. This is a simple idea, but it’s not easy.
Have you ever had a great idea, went crazy for a few weeks posting, and then lost steam all together?
This happens a lot for people because quality, consistent content output is hard. But, it’s definitely necessary in order to create a relationship with your audience and grow your platform.
If you’re having trouble getting started, if you’re tired of starting and stopping, or you’re just ready to take your content output to the next level, these tips are for you!
Set Content Output Goals
Goal setting can be totally fun or a serious drag depending on how you feel about following through on what you say you’ll do. It’s important to have a moment of self-awareness when setting your goals because you want your goals to be a reach but also realistic! Once they are set, they don’t move. Create confidence in yourself that you do what you set out to do.
When setting goals, it’s important to make sure that you are empowered by them. That means that the result your after is exclusively under your control. Here are two examples, one is a circumstance of a goal and one is an empowered goal.
- “Next year I will have 100,000 followers on IG”
- “Next year I will 365 posts up on my IG account”
Do you see the difference? The result of goal number 2 is goal number 1. Bet ya if you post 365 quality posts that offer value to your target audience you have a better chance to hit that 100,000 number.
Write these goals down, create actions steps from them, and put all those actions steps on your calendar. If you want more help on this goal-setting process this is an extremely helpful podcast.
Keep It Simple
News flash! You do not need a fancy camera, studio lighting, that preset, glossy things, or a professional photographer to post a picture.
All you need is an idea, a smartphone, and an internet connection.
There are so many cases of “I’ll get started when……” and that is a sticky place to be. When planning your content it’s always good to dream about what it can be in the future, but make sure you ideate a plan with what you have now.
If you make content create too complicated or hard, it will be easier to break that commitment you made with yourself.
NICHE!
Creating a niche for your content is not groundbreaking advice. But in this case, it’s easier to decide upon something when you have limited options.
When you have a narrow niche, it’s not only easier to attract people but it will direct your content so you don’t live in “what-should-I-post-about” Land.
Pick something. Stick with it. Decided that’s the plan for your content.
That way, you don’t need to make a decision every day about what to say. One less decision to make means roadblock to staying consistent in your output.
Lastly, Batch your Content
This is probably this biggest pain but will reap you the biggest rewards. No one wants to sit down with their content calendar and create content for the week.
But if you plan it in advance and queue it up, your output will be on lock!
Pick a day of the week that you plan content for the upcoming week. Source images, plan shoots, write captions during this time.
Take all of your hard work and plug it into an automatic posting service! Later.com is a great resource for this.
Once it’s all sorted you can just hop on to your social channels to engage and watch your post performance!
How nice is that?
Now it’s your turn!
Definitely take the time to implement these strategies into your workflow. Consistency is a learned practice and you can get better at it if you work!
Just imagine where you could be in a year if you never stopped?
Put in the work and watch your dream get turned into a reality. Best of luck!
